St Paul’s church is a Baroque-Doric 18th Century church located in the heart of Cospicua. The first stone of the church was laid by Archbishop Paul Alphéran de Bussan on 11 August 1735, in the presence of the clergy of Cospicua. The construction of the church was completed in 1740 and was blessed in 1741. The church is located on the same site of an older church built in 1590. The church features various works of art such as the altarpiece which is the work of Rokku Buhagiar from Bormla and it depicts the Conversion of St Paul. This is regarded as one of the masterpieces of the Maltese Baroque. The church features one high altar and two side altars.  One of the side altars which depicts the Holy Family is the work of the Cospicua born artist Giovanni Vella. The other side altar contains a painting which depicts the Martyrdom of St Barbara that is the work of Francesco Zahra. Two other paintings are found in the church’s vestry which portray the Resurrection of Lazarus and the Meeting between St Francis and St Dominic. In collaboration with Kottonera Foundation
