Expression of Interest
Invitation for the provision of professional services by musicians and singers for the Malta Concert Orchestra

Background

The Malta Concert Orchestra’s mission is “to reach out to people across the board through accessible and inspiring musical performances.” The orchestra is a versatile ensemble made up of professional and semi-professional musicians who perform in formations of various sizes depending on venue and occasion particularly in the genres of pop, jazz and rock. Under the direction of its associate conductors Paul Abela and Joe Brown, the orchestra has performed numerous memorable concerts. These include Suċċessi Maltin, Notte Italiana, A Night at the Musicals, The Name’s Bond …, Queen Tribute Concert, A Christmas Celebration as well as a number of free concerts in various localities around Malta as part of Pjazza Teatru Rjal’s community outreach programme Pjazza fi Pjazza. The Malta Concert Orchestra is also the resident orchestra of the festival L-Għanja tal-Poplu. Furthermore, the jazz ensemble within the same orchestra, the MCO Big Band, has performed alongside numerous internationally renowned jazz musicians such as Gabriele Comeglio, Stjepko Gut and the Italian television star Massimo Lopez.

Scope

The Malta Concert Orchestra (MCO) intends to widen its pool of musicians and singers with the scope of improving its standards and level of its performances whilst giving the younger generation the opportunity to expose their talents. Pjazza Teatru Rjal is, therefore, issuing this Expression of Interest amongst musicians and singers based in the Maltese Islands who would be interested in rendering their services either as a singer or as an instrumentalist with the Malta Concert Orchestra.
